Native
California collage artist, Jan Weiss,
defines her work as making order out of chaos.
The chaos includes a plethora of paper, found
objects, postcards, canceled stamps, and
fabric. The order is the image that comes
through the paper.
Vintage letters and postcards, some of Weiss’
preferred materials, grant a sense of immortality
to the one who sent it; the very one who sat
down with fountain pen in hand, to write about
their travels, their children; their life. Weiss revels
in the fact that the oils from their hand remain
on the paper and get passed onto the buyer.
