Bambi
Papais was born and raised in Utah,
and came to California in her early twenties.
She loves California so much she decided this is
where she wants to stay.
A self taught artist, Bambi has been sketching
as far back as she can remember. She
remembers coloring books being a very
important thing - wondering who drew these
pictures that she was coloring and thinking that
she should be drawing these pictures instead.
Later, Bambi took art classes at school, and
even was offered a scholarship in commercial
art. She participated in many watercolor
workshops to perfect her skill, which is evident
in her strong confident use of color, her bold
compositions and endearing characters.
Though Bambi experimented at oils, acrylics,
pen and pencil, she realized it was watercolor
that captured her attention; the medium she
kept coming back to. Her favorite subjects are
flora and fauna. “I love flowers, I can’t get
enough of the flowers; they amaze me; the
way they are put together!” Bambi explains
with enthusiasm upon describing what she likes
to paint most. She also likes to take serious
subjects and paint them with a sense of humor.
When looking closely at her paintings, one will
often find frogs hiding in the leaves, sometimes
they wear hats, though no two are ever alike.
“When people can get a good feeling from
looking at my work, when the painting can
touch their heart, when they laugh out loud,
then I’ve accomplished what I meant to do”.
In addition to painting, Bambi owns two art
galleries, along with four other artists. She works
in the galleries one or two days a month. Bambi
enjoys traveling with her husband Duane, & is
actively involved in her community. But, Bambi
says, almost all her pastimes and hobbies
revolved around art; it surrounds her life.
Bambi and her husband Duane live in Northern
California and have four grown children
between the two of them. They are all off to
college, which leaves only their fat fuzzy
Himalayan cat Floyd still at home.
Bambi Papais is published exclusively by Bentley
House Fine Art Publishers of Walnut Creek,
California and distributed worldwide.
